Frequently asked Questions FAQ

Is the diving in Nuweiba suitable for families?

Diving in Nuweiba is especially well suited to families and children. In Nuweiba, we make almost all of our dives from shore. This means a short drive to the dive site, and a quick and easy entry and exit into the water over a sandy slope. The dives too are almost all made on sites with a sandy bottom close to a reef wall. For Junior Open Water or Junior Advanced Open Water divers, the dive sites in Nuweiba are particularly suitable, as they offer stunning dives at both deeper and shallower depths. Where possible we provide a separate dive guide for Junior divers and their families, at no additional cost, to allow them to make the most of their dive, within the limits set for them, and with more personal attention.

When is the best time to dive in Nuweiba?

We are lucky in Nuweiba that diving is beautiful all year round. In the summer months (May to November), we have warm water and a warm external temperature, which makes for very comfortable diving. This is the time of year that we have seen the majority of the ‘big things’ passing by in the blue. Some families with small children find September and October (the hottest months) to be too warm for them, so prefer to avoid this time. In the winter months, there is a cooler air and water temperature, with more wind. This means you need to bring a warm jumper to retain heat between dives. At this time of year, you are more likely to see Dolphins, including Nuweiba’s famous Dolphin ‘Olin’. At all times of the year, Nuweiba’s spectacular reef walls, myriad of fish, and pristine coral is certain not to disappoint!

What is special about diving in Nuweiba?

Diving in Nuweiba is a rare opportunity to enjoy spectacular and varied dives in peace and relaxation. Nuweiba as a town offers a real experience of Bedouin Egypt, and the chance to relax away from the stresses of everyday life in peace and quiet. There are over 20 different dive sites, with a large variety of marine life, hard and soft corals, and catering to all levels of diver training and experience. Nuweiba offers an ideal environment for learning to dive, and for all subsequent levels of diver education. With very little current or waves, the novice diver can focus on the most important part of diving, the enjoyment, without other stresses. Nuweiba also offers stunning wall dives and areas for experienced divers and technical diving that rival the best dives of Dahab or Sharm El Sheikh. Another area that makes Nuweiba stand out is the huge potential and variety of subjects for macro photographers. Nuweiba offers the best the Red Sea has to offer in marine life and ecosystems, whilst remaining one of the rare places where you can dive in small groups and not see other divers under water!

Is there the option to learn and make Tech Dives?

African Divers Nuweiba is a TDI facility and is the only Technical Diving Facility in Nuweiba. We teach all levels of TDI courses, from Basic Nitrox through to Advanced Trimix, and gas blending courses, and offer certified technical divers the chance to make guided technical dives. Nuweiba is an excellent training ground for technical diving, with a number of dive sites offering both easy access to the water, and excellent training conditions. The diving at depth in Nuweiba is stunning, with the options to make dives over sweeping deep plateaus or along deep reef walls.

Do I need a Visa to stay in Egypt?

Yes, everyone who enters Egypt is required to have a Visa. These can be organised in advance from the Egyptian Embassy within your country of residence, or easily at the airport on arrival. There are two types of Visa; the free, rubber stamp, and the $15 paper stamps. You need to get the paper Visa to have free movement within the Sinai and it’s National Parks, and to have access to all dive sites, including those within the Ras Mohamed National Park. We strongly recommend that you purchase this Visa upon your arrival in Egypt.
